The Crown of The Year (DVD)The Crown of The Year (DVD)
Four wartime films showing the four seasons in 1941 and 1942.

Winter on the Farm was made at Upton Manor Farm, Dorset and shows the hard work of winter which must go on in all weathers.

In Spring on the Farm we move to Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire for the spring sowing and rolling. As spring ends the farm workers can see the first signs of the harvest to come.

Summer on the Farm is haymaking time, and farmers begin to harvest some crops to supply the local towns. Industrial Manchester is supplied with green vegitables, potatoes, fruit and milk from the surroundingfarms of Lancashire and Cheshire.

Finally, in The Crown of the Year, we visit George Hodges's East Norfolk farm. It is time for the grain harvest and the bulk of the root crops are now lifted. After the Harvest Festival, the ploughs are out on the stuble fields, and the farmers are making plans for the New Year's crops.
