Wartime Film Evening

The British documentary film movement began in the 1930s and used dramatic new and fresh ways to show the rapidly changing world and to get their message across. The Second World War was to have a dramatic effect on these film makers and their films which continue to influence us today.

This evening we will be showing a selection of short documentary films (together with some short Ministry of Information films) which will illustrate the spirit, strength, concerns and resolve of Britain and its people before, during and after the Second World War.

A unique opportunity to see a selection of rare wartime documentary and propaganda films which give an insight into the people of Britain during the Second World War.

1940s Society Wartime Dance
Donnington Hall, Barretts Road, Dunton Green Nr. Sevenoaks.

The Dunton Green Home Guard has kindly allowed us an evening within The People's Hall to stage another morale-boosting Black Out Dance.

Enjoy the atmosphere of a special venue, enhanced by a range of music from such artists as Al Bowlly, Lew Stone and Geraldo, to Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey, all supplied by Empire Radio.  There will also be live performances by ENSA's marvellous top of the bill singing act, the Clover Sisters.

Whether you dance or just savour the atmosphere, grab your gasmask and tin hat for an evening of wartime nostalgia and entertainment. Dress code is very much 1940s or smart (military, civilian, black tie, no axis uniforms). Bring your own drinks and snacks as there isn't a licensed bar.

Our last dance here was a great success so we are expecting an excellent and fun evening.
