Dover 40's Weekend and Armed Forces Day event
Organised by the Hellfire Corner Association this FREE event has always been entertaining and good fun. It takes place in Pencester Gardens in the centre of Dover and usually includes vehicles, entertainment and traders. There will also be a dance on the Saturday evening which requires tickets. This Summer Powis Castle will be stepping back in time to show visitors what life was like at the property during WW2.
On June 12th & 13th visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about how The Ashford Girls' School was relocated to Powis Castle and how they used the Ballroom as their classroom and gymnasium. There will be information boards in the old kitchens explaining about the evacuees that came to Welshpool, the Welshpool Home guard and how the Earl of Powis and his family supported the war effort.
There will be themed trails for children in the castle and garden, a variety of re-enactments given by Black Knight Historical society, an authentic nurses station, a 1940’s DJ, jazz dancing and a performance by Porthywaen Brass Band on Sunday 13th.

The Castle is open 1-5pm, last admission 4.15pm.  The gardens, tearoom and shop are open 11am – 5.30pm.  Normal admission prices apply + £1 for the trails.

Always a very enjoyable event to attend, the railway is taken back to the war years with evacuees, homeguard, vintage vehicles and of course steam trains. Big Band Dance

A home front event with civilian and military vehicles, Manston Fire Museum, exhibition tent,  sales stands, Ministry of Food demos, ARP post, Post Office,  Fashion Show, 212 Squadron and childrens fair (swingboats, roundabout and rifle range).and lots more.  Entertainment to include Kas and The Cinque Ports Lindy Hoppers.  Organised by Ramsgate Bygone Days Historical Group, a warm welcome is extended to all 1940s re enactors or groups that  might like to put on a display of some kind. Returning for its fifth year. Come to the railway and enjoy the explosive battle to liberate the station, try your hand with the wartime firefighting equipment, see the gunnery display, the fashion show and fall your children in for drill and combat training. Salute to the 40’s at The Historic Dockyard Chatham.
Once again we will be presenting the biggest 1940’s event in the south east with a whole host of armed forces and home front re-enactors and loads of military and civilian vehicles. We have all the old favourites again such as the real warships, admiralty steam railway, Fire Station, Dockyard canteen, air raid shelters & sirens, concerts and sing-songs, convoys, river trips and much more; plus a few new tricks up our sleeves! We will have a major new gallery open this year in collaboration with the Imperial War Museum and the National Maritime Museum in which the newly restored war art collection of Sir Stanley Spencer will be on show. Allied armed forces and home front re-enactors and vehicle owners are very welcome to join this unique event set in a real Royal Naval Dockyard. As the Staffordshire Regiment has merged to become the Mercian Regiment join us as we look back over 500 years of fighting under the Stafford Knot Banner from the Retinue of the Duke of Buckingham in the Wars of the Roses through the formation of the Regiment in 1705, service in America, South Africa, the Trenches and of course the South Stafford Airborne.
