The Society

The 1940's Society hold regular meetings with lectures and discussions on different aspects of the 1940's. Despite the Home Front being of particular interest to members, subjects vary widely and have included lectures on French escape lines and the Russian Front. Regular film evenings are also popular with classic wartime films and propaganda shorts being shown.

Meetings are informal and friendly with refreshments and cakes always proving to be popular.

The Society also produce a semi-regular newsletter for members which includes up to date information and news & views for those interested in 1940's issues.

Membership is FREE for those in the UK with a contribution for postage costs required by overseas members (sorry).
Email me for further details.

I am always interested to hear from individuals
or groups who have specialist knowledge
and would be able to give an informal talk or
lecture to our members.
Please Contact me if you can help.

Meetings take place at Otford Village Memorial Hall, Otford, Near Sevenoaks, Kent
and start at 8pm.

Wartime Film Evening

The British documentary film movement began in the 1930s and used dramatic new and fresh ways to show the rapidly changing world and to get their message across. The Second World War was to have a dramatic effect on these film makers and their films which continue to influence us today.

This evening we will be showing a selection of short documentary films (together with some short Ministry of Information films) which will illustrate the spirit, strength, concerns and resolve of Britain and its people before, during and after the Second World War.

A unique opportunity to see a selection of rare wartime documentary and propaganda films which give an insight into the people of Britain during the Second World War.

8pm at Otford Memorial Hall near Sevenoaks, Kent. Further details from Ian on 01732 452505 Admission £2
